The Best Sadaqa is during Ramadan

The Best Sadaqa is during Ramadan
The month of Ramadan—giving charity during this month has a high status.

It has been authenticated from the hadith of Anas—may Allah be pleased with him—that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

أفضل الصدقة صدقة رمضان

“The best Sadaqa is the Sadaqa of Ramadan”

Thus the Sadaqa during Ramadan has a high status. And included in this is providing food for the fasting person to break their fast with. It has been authenticated that the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

مَنْ فَطَّرَ صَائِمًا فَلَهُ مِثْلُ أَجْرِهِ وَلَا يَنْقُصُ مِنْ أَجْرِ الصَّائِمِ شَيْءٌ

“Whoever provides food for the fasting person to break their fast with, he will have the reward of the fasting person without decreasing the reward of the fasting person at all.”

It was said to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ، لَيْسَ كُلُّنَا يَجِدُ مَا يُفَطِّرُ الصَّائِمَ ؟

“O Messenger of Allah, all of us do not find that which is sufficient to break the fast of the fasting person?

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:

يُعْطِي اللَّهُ تَعَالَى ذَلِك لمَنْ فَطَّرَ صَائِمًا ولو عَلَى شَرْبَةِ مَاءٍ

Allah will give that (reward) to the person who breaks the fast of the person even if it is with a drink of water.”

Thus the water which quenches the living creatures contains a tremendous blessing. Thus it is upon the slave to give this matter concern.

Abdullah ibn Umar—may Allah be pleased with them—would only break his fast during Ramadan with the poor. And it has been mentioned in his biography, that if his family would prevent the poor from breaking their fast with him—as they would refuse them sometimes—then he would not eat dinner. He would feel sadness—may Allah be pleased with him—thus he would not eat dinner that night. May Allah be pleased with him.

Once a beggar came to him asking for food while he was about to break his fast, so he took his portion of food enough to break his fast and left the food for the beggar. So when he returned home, his family had already eaten the food in the house. Thus he remained hungry until the following night. There was no food in his home.

Ramadan did not come for the purpose of gluttony. Ramadan did not come to overload the stomachs. It came to alleviate them so that the soul may be lightened. When the stomach is light the soul becomes light and proceeds towards worship. Look at the camel. If it is slender it is suitable for racing. This outcome comes as a result of leanness. It did not come as a result of filling the stomach; it came as a result of leanness, leanness of the stomach and minimal amount of food.

Thus as it relates to worship; if the person deceases his food and drink intake, he will be energetic towards worship.

Bidding Farewell to Ramadan

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Wassalatu Wassalamu ala Rasulillah

As the month of great mercies draws to a close, as the faithful engage in final acts of Ramadan devotions, as believers anticipate divine acceptance and as Muslims across the world prepare for the coming Eid celebrations, let us close our series of Ramadan exhortations from Ibn Rajab al-Hanbali with the following:

‘Servants of God! The month of Ramadan has resolved to leave, and only a little of it now remains. Those among you who have done well in it, let them see it through till its end. Those who have fallen short, let them finish it with goodly actions. Enjoy the remaining few days and nights that are left of it. Bid it farewell with righteous deeds that will testify in your favour before the All-Knowing King. See it off by parting with it with the purest greeting of peace …

O month of Ramadan, be gentle! The tears of the lovers are streaming down at your departure and their hearts torn asunder at the pain of separation. Perhaps standing to bid you farewell may quench the flames of yearning that burn within. Perhaps a few moments of repentance and abstinence may mend of the fast all that has pierced it. Perhaps one cut-off from the caravan [of fasters] may find divine acceptance along with them. Perhaps one who was deserving of the Fire will be set free. Perhaps one shackled by sins will be liberated. Perhaps the sinner shall be shown mercy to by the Protecting Master.’1

Top Tips For Making The Most of Laylatul Qadr

Bismillah Walhamdulillah Wassalatu Wassalamu ala Rasulillah

Laytul Qadr or the Night of Power is the pinnacle of the blessed month of Ramadan, and is the equivalent of spending 1000 months in worship of Allah SWT!

The Prophet SAW ordered us to search for Laytul Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan during the odd nights. However, we recommend you treat EVERY night of the last ten nights with the same amount of effort and fervour, because you don’t want to risk losing this beautiful night!

So here are our top tips to make the most of these last ten nights:

1. Prepare yourself by writing out your dua checklist of all the things you want to make dua for – you can section them into duas for the home, personal duas, family, health, wealth, duas for others and for the ummah.

2. Take regular naps during the day, so that you are ready and refreshed for your worship at night.

3. Pick a room in your home (if you are not going to the mosque) and make it clean and comfortable. Have with you: Quran, Hisnul Muslim (Fortress of a Muslim dua book or other authentic supplications) and water, fruit and dates so you have everything you need to hand.

3. Make thikr often with the recommended supplication for these last ten days which is:

Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibb al-afwa fa’affu ‘anni

(Oh Allah, you are Forgiving and you love forgiveness, so forgive me)

4. Vary your acts of worship so you don’t get tired. You can alternate between the Quran, Qiyaam, dhikr and dua.

5. Be generous in your duas! You wouldn’t ask a King for a penny, and Allah SWT is the King of Kings, so be GENEROUS in asking Allah for plenty and don’t limit yourself to Allah’s blessings or limit what Allah is able to give you! Ask of good and Allah will give you good!

6. Make dua in sujood, in the witr, in qiyaam etc and make it ABUNDANTLY

7. Be hopeful in Allah’s Mercy and CERTAIN that Allah WILL respond. Making dua half-heartedly means you’re not fully engaged with connecting with your Lord and also means you have no confidence in your own duas!

May Allah SWT grant us all forgiveness in this blessed month and may ALL of our duas be answered ameen!
